so yesterday was 6 months

it wasn’t as bad as i expected.

spent the day with family and friends, and my mother made biscuits & gravy in honor of lori (it was one of my wife’s favorite breakfast dishes.)

in the afternoon we spent an hour or so out at the local watergardening store (flora tropicana,) and i bought two new koi to put in my pond.

i have dubbed the sparkly orange and black one “sweetpea,” in honor of lori as well.

she always loved feeding the fishes in our little pond.

overall it was a lovely, if quite emotional day for me, and i was happy to be surrounded by close friends.

spent the rest of the weekend doing work in the garden, and generally enjoying our first real summerish weather (uggh, in April!)

lori’s rose bush is now huge and overflowing with beautiful blooms, and the gladiolas i planted in her memory are now bursting from the soil.

some of my three-year-old bamboo is now reaching 15-feet tall, and all over the yard flowers are showing off their stuff… we’ve got bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, robins, scrubjays, and lots of squirrels.

oh, and for those of you who have been worried by my lack of writing here, please don’t be… i promise to let you know if i take a turn for the worse, but right now i simply don’t have the need to purge my pain in writing like i did right after lori passed.

the reality is that i’m moving forward with my life, and while it’s not ALL wine and roses, i am happy to report that i am still having more good days than bad.

and after a few bumps and bruises and i am finally stabilizing on half my previous prozac dose… in another month or so i will cut it in half again.

talk to ya’ soon………

  • Hey Cary. Good to hear from ya. Glad the good days are outweighing the bad days.

Still thinking of you… Our “month” markers are always close to one another. My friend Julie passed away on November 24th, so we just passed the five month mark for her last week.

Wishing you all the best -

  • Hey, Cary,

My wife and I went into the hospital to deliver our little baby Amelia on the evening of Friday October 26th. We fully expected her to be born Saturday 10/27. It was an early labor by design, and the induction did not go well, so Heather struggled with it for two days and we ended up doing a C-section. Amelia Jade Hunter was born Monday October 29, 2007. She is six months old tomorrow. When I found Lori’s and your blogs, I immediately thought of it as some kind of strange cosmic balance that Amelia was born the same weekend Lori passed. When she is old enough, and I can tell her about the heroes I know, she will learn that a hero finished her battles two days before Amelia’s birthday. We may just have to call it Lori Miller Day and volunteer to do kind things to help other people every year on that day. And Jessi Gay Day will be April 17th ( http://www.brevardtnt.org/kelly_gay.htm ), and Christian Stafford Day will be March 6th ( http://www.sci-fitoys.com/christianstafford.html ). Why do I already like the idea of those holidays better than Christmas, Easter, and the 4th of July?

    Take care, and live strong.

  • Cary from your words can see that day by day you are moving in a more positive direction and that is great. Life is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest and it’s your time to reach for that, know it’s what Lori and all of us who care about you would want for you. Just know we are here for you any time you need a friend, just drop us an e-mail. Every day can be a challenge with the ups and downs that come our way, some days are better than the others thankfully…..so keep making the most of each day. Bless you. Arlene (AJ)
