well, it’s early in the week and it looks like my weekend is already filling up… my lovely sister has invited me to Alameda to see a play of “Frog and Toad” –– one of the all-time favorite books from my childhood –– and to top it off, i’ve decided there’s no way in hell i’m going to miss the frida kahlo exhibit at the s.f. moma.

while i’ve been a frida fan for many years, lori pretty much adopted her as something of a deity in the last few years of her life –– i can’t say for sure, but i think kahlo’s tragic trolley car accident early in life, and subsequent chronic pain, was a huge source of inspiration for lori as she struggled against her own painful and debilitating disease for all those years.

anyway, leave it to kahlo to constantly re-remind us of what we have to be thankful for, what it means to delve deep into our own souls for the sake of self-expression, and what is truly of value in life –– love in all its forms.

come to think of it, in the spirit of both frida and day of the dead, here’s something i think you’ll all enjoy –– lori & cary as frida & diego, circa halloween 2003, if my memory serves me.

we got all dressed up and then stayed in… go figure. but as you can see, it was a heck of a lot of fun, and we got some great photos out of it…

but getting back to this weekend––yeah, my plan is to hit the frida exhibit on early saturday, see the frog & toad play on saturday evening, and otherwise just bum it around Alameda again, do some writing, some reading, and some tasty eating/relaxing/photography/whatever… ooh! i think i’ll take my bike along, too!
